Course Content overview:
Security+ certification is recognized around the world as the benchmark for foundation-level security professionals.  Security+ was developed with input from industry, government, academia and front-line practitioners, so you can be assured of its relevance. Microsoft also participated with CompTIA to develop Security+ and has implemented Security+ into the MCSA and MCSE such that it fulfills some of the security requirements.

CompTIA A+ is part of the certification track for corporations such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other technology companies, including CompuCom and Ricoh, have made CompTIA A+ certification mandatory for their service technicians.

CompTIA Security+ prepares security professionals to earn vendor-neutral certifications in other areas of expertise. CompTIA Security+ certified professionals who want to diversify their base knowledge in other areas should also consider pursuing CompTIA Network+, Server+ or Convergence+. While CompTIA Security+ is not a prerequisite for any of these certifications, however they are highly recommended. The third column of this chart shows possible job titles of candidates who would benefit from earning these credentials.

CompTIA Security+ validates knowledge of communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, operational security, and general security concepts. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification that is taught at colleges, universities and commercial training centers around the world. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Security+ candidates have at least two years on-the-job networking experience, with an emphasis on security. The CompTIA Network+ certification is also recommended.

Because human error is the number one cause for a network security breach, CompTIA Security+ is recognized by the technology community as a valuable credential that proves competency with information security. Major corporations such as Sun, IBM/Tivoli Software Group, Symantec, Motorola, Hitachi Electronics Services and Verisign value the CompTIA Security+ certification and recommend or require it of their IT employees.

As with all CompTIA qualifications the Security+ is one of the only vendor neutral certifications, this means it is a well-rounded program, which focuses more on the methodology and technology than a specific brand or software.
